I don't ask for help very often, but when I do, it tends to be something pretty major.

This November, after years of therapy, and box-ticking, I'm finally having top surgery. I need to pay a £5,000 deposit by October 1st, and then I will have just under a year to pay the remaining £10,000 - and rather than spend the next five years feeding credit cards bit by bit, my closest friends convinced me to do the braver thing and just ask.

For those who don’t know me, I'm a solo parent, community worker and a drummer, which means the six weeks of recovery aren't just about healing my physical body after surgery. They're six long weeks where I can't work, can’t be available in person to support my community and I won’t be able to rehearse or gig, and caring for my son will be a bit more of a challenge than usual.
