In March 2024, Dan Allen received the devastating news that his cancer had spread and although treatable, would likely take his life within two years. Dan said at that time that he had hoped to be able to keep working until the end so that his family could receive the life insurance benefit his work provided, which would pay off the mortgage for their modest house in New Cumberland and give his family the security of not having to worry about housing after he was gone. Dan continued working as long as he was able, but due to his pain and the side effects of his treatments, he had to leave his job with Fairview Township last year. Fortunately, disability and SSI benefits have provided a portion of his prior income and his medical care has been mostly covered because of his veteran status. He is also grateful that he was recently able to attend his older daughter's graduation from Millersville University last month with his wife and younger daughter, who just finished 7th grade.
Dan is the kind of guy who loves to help others, tell stories, and serve his community. He lives each day not in fear, but in the confidence of God's presence, comfort, goodness, and mercy. Although he is more comfortable giving than receiving, I know he will be grateful for any gifts, large or small, that will help to provide peace of mind for his family's long-term future. And he'll love telling the beautiful story of the generosity of his friends and neighbors.
