Help Sean get back on his feet!

As many of you know, Sean and Miriam have had a very turbulent few years, largely related to health and dealing with reoccurring infections in Sean's leg that have landed him in the hospital and out of work for weeks at a time. Sean has Fibrous Dysplasia, a rare bone disease, and has had multiple rods in his leg for 20+ years - this might surprise you, considering we all know him as a gregarious, easy-going guy who's always out surfing or riding his bike. He's just the kind of guy that won't be stopped and we love him for that.
Sean and Miriam recently moved up to the coast of Oregon with plans of living a slower paced life and enjoying the incredible outdoors in the area. While the move has largely been a dream, Sean faced his worst bout of illness over the past six weeks, which has again landed him in the hospital and out of work for the entire month of October and most of November. After many nights in the ER and trying every antibiotic under the sun, Sean and Miriam were told to seek out a team of specialists at OHSU in hopes of saving Sean's leg and finding a long-term solution for his antibiotic-resistant infections. With the help of incredible surgeons, orthopedic oncologists, and infectious disease specialists, Sean underwent extensive emergency surgery to remove the rod from his tibia, as the doctors believed the infection couldn't be removed with the hardware in place. They also gathered bone and tissue samples during the surgery in hopes of gaining more information on the infection.
Today (11/14) he begins a slow journey to getting healthy and mobile again. The tentative plan is to completely rid his body of the infection through 2-3 months of antibiotics, and then have another surgery to put a new, vastly updated support in his tibia.
While Sean gets healthy, he will be out of work for several months, unable to contribute to their mortgage and monthly expenses. In addition, he's insured but the medical bills are quickly mounting, expected to be well over $10,000
To say that these two are under a tremendous amount of stress would be an understatement. If you know them, you love them and know that they deserve nothing but the absolute best. We're starting this gofundme in hopes of alleviating some of the financial stress this has caused while Sean focuses on healing and Miriam takes on the role of caretaker.
We will continue to update this platform as we get more information from the doctor regarding the cause and rehabilitation.
