- The Knowles family could use your help. Rowan the son of Justin and Melinda Knowles had an accident on the four wheeler and he is in Children's Mercy. He will have long recovery. He has skull fractures and a broken jaw. They will be in Kansas City for at least a few more days and then will have numerous follow up appointments. Per Melinda.... Some may have heard Rowan wrecked his 4wheeler yesterday afternoon. By the grace of god he managed to drive it back home and walk into the house to get us. We rushed him to the hospital. The team at Nemaha valley hospital were absolutely amazing and could not have been better! He was life stared to children’s mercy in KC. He’s currently sedated on vent as a precaution to protect his airway. He has several large lacerations on his face that they were able to suture early this morning. They were planning to have surgery to repair his fractured jaw today but are now going to wait until Monday to allow him more time to let swelling go down and continue monitoring his Neuros. He was taken out of sedation this morning for neuro assessment and was able to follow commands to give thumbs up and wiggle toes! he’s had a rough go with the sedation and woke several times trying to pull his vent vomit blood that he had swallowed but pain is better controlled now and vitals are looking good. He does have some fractures to the bones in his inner ear that control his ability to hear so ENT are monitoring this and he has plugs in his ears to help keep ear canals open. He does have some fractures at the base of his skull and CT showed some air around his brain. They are monitoring for leaking cerebral fluid but no leaking has occurred. They said this air will dissipate on its own and there is nothing they need to do for those fractures as they will heal on their own. They will continue to X-ray and ct over the next 72 hrs to ensure there is no change in his brain but they feel very confident with how well he is doing that there will be no concerns. They said from the CT they do not see any fractures in his neck but will keep him in C-spine precautions until he is able to fully come out of sedation and off vent for full examine. He is getting a picc put in at this moment so he can get the necessary medication more safely and efficiently. Come Monday he will have surgery to repair his jaw with a plate and will have mouth wired shut for 6-8 was and be on a liquid diet. Life is looking a little different at the moment but praising god that he is doing so well!! Thank you roseanna for meeting him down here and being with him while we drive and to everyone who has prayed with us and offered to help in many ways. I absolutely love our group of family, friends, coworkers and community!❤️❤️❤️❤️we are feeling the love! Please keep the prayers coming!
