Gus’s Surgery
Donation protected
Update as of 4/14: Friday night Gus was able to come home from the animal hospital and since then has not thrown up which is great. Saturday night was the first meal we were able to get him to eat since Tuesday with a little bit of encouragement from rice and beef broth. Sunday morning he seems to be in better spirits which makes our hearts so happy. The plan is on Tuesday 4/16 Matt will take him back to Hickory Veterinary Hospital where he will undergo his exploratory surgery. The goal is to get the cysts out, and remove some of the adhesions to relieve the pressure on his organs. We have been informed by the doctors/specialist that this is a tricky surgery. They do not know if they will be able to remove anything, or maybe even just some of the cysts. Unfortunately this is an extremely abnormal case, one they have not seen before. They are hopeful that the cysts won’t be cancer but also repeated to us that they won’t know for sure until they are inside and get the cyst in hand. Gus’s bloodwork has come back great, but with how his organs are that shouldn’t be the case. Our boy is breaking all the medical rules right now. We are so grateful for every single person who has donated, and I can’t thank you all enough. You all are helping take some of this financial burden off of us, while allowing us to give Gus the best chance at a long happy life. We will forever be thankful for this opportunity you are giving our family. ❤️

Hi everyone, I am the last person on earth that likes to ask for help but unfortunately after today it seems like asking for support is one of our few options. As many of you know my husband and I recently got our golden retriever Gus, he has become a huge part of our family, and our daughter’s best friend. He even has become a part of my work family by coming to work with me on many days and nights since he was a puppy. On 4/10 Gus went into surgery to be neutered, we knew his neuter would be a little more complicated due to having a cryptorchidism. When they went in for surgery they found his stomach inflamed and a lot of adhesions and we were recommended to follow up with a specialist since this is very abnormal. Unfortunately the night/morning after his neuter he had some complications and could not keep any fluid or food down which lead us to going to Hickory Veterinary Hospital to seek further help and treatment. After blood work, X-Rays, ultrasound and a CT Scan it has shown that he has multiple cysts on and around his liver causing his organs to be put in positions they should not be in. As of right now on 4/11 the goal is to get Gus to keep fluids and food down, since he unfortunately is unable to they are keeping him over night and monitoring him. We are hoping he makes a turn for the better so we can bring him home and have a scheduled exploratory surgery for next week to remove the cysts as long as it’s possible. If he can’t keep anything down he could possibly have to have an emergency surgery this weekend. This surgery comes with a lot of unknown factors since this is not something the specialists have seen before and they are unsure if they can remove the cysts. Of course with all of this comes an insane amount of unexpected bills, and a ton of heartache and stress. We just want our boy to be okay and come home to our family and be his spunky loving self again. Any contribution, positive thoughts, and prayers we truly appreciate more than I couldn’t ever put words together to explain. We love our boy so much and just want him to get the best treatment and to come home.
