Update: Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for your support, love and prayers for our mama these past 4 months. We are so excited to share that mom’s last chemotherapy appointment is today (April 2, 2025)! She has successfully had 8 chemotherapy treatments, alongside many Hyperthermia treatments. There’s been a couple hospital stays, some helpful hydration therapies and potassium IV’s. Along with managing her nutrition, taking the right supplements and vitamins, we are seeing all this hard work pay off!
Her CEA number, which is a marker for cancer, has gone from over 97,000 -> now down to 775! (With this last treatment today still to go!)
We are praising God and thanking Him for taking care of Melinda and allowing this cancer to shrink and be removed from her body!
Speaking of, her last CT scan showed all lesions on her liver and colon have significantly shrunk & calcified!
She is now eligible for surgery to remove the colon tumor & part of her liver where her largest mass is.
Here’s where we still need you!
Her surgery is scheduled for May 1, 2025. She will be in the hospital for about a week and it will be another 4-6 weeks of recovery.
Please be praying for these specific things:
- that the surgery goes well and all cancerous lesions are removed with good margins
- that they will be able to operate on the liver and the colon in 1 surgery so she won’t have to endure a 2nd surgery with 2nd anesthesia.
- pray that her recovery and time in the hospital is quick and without complications
- pray that all of moms needs will be met during this time.
Because she is taking a week off from work, she loses about $1,000 of income.
If you are able and can give a gift to relieve some of that financial burden for Melinda, that would truly bless her and us!
After her surgery, Melinda will be staying with Kevin & Traci at their home until she is more mobile and independent.
Truly thank you all for your prayers and support and encouragement during this time. We still have more ahead of us, but we have so much hope!
We all have just witnessed God doing a miracle and to Him be ALL the glory!

Original Post: Melinda Carpenter, our sweet Mama and Mimi, has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer that has spread to her liver. We are thankful she is receiving treatment primarily at Loma Linda. She begins chemotherapy on Tuesday, December 10th, and will continue for 6 months, at which point we hope she will be eligible for surgery to remove the remaining cancer (if any)!
Please be praying with us that God would completely remove and heal her of this cancer. We believe He can. He is Sovereign over ALL! Cancer does not have authority over our mom’s body, God does. It can only go as far as HE allows.
We are praying for the Lord’s will and that He would be gracious to spare our mom, friend, and sister from this sickness and restore her health!
As you pray, if you are led to give financially, please know we greatly appreciate it. There are many costs associated with this diagnosis and anything given will directly relieve the financial burden cancer creates.
We are all thankful and proud to see our mom’s resilient faith and trust in the Lord through all of this. If you’d like to send her encouragement or a note of sympathy you can email or text her, but we’d like to gently ask that you be understanding if she can’t respond right away. It can get overwhelming at times, but that doesn’t mean we don’t appreciate or desire the love & encouragement.
“Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; His understanding is beyond measure.” - Psalm 147:5
“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living.” - Psalm 27:13
Thank you for believing with us!
