Alex Boysen is in the fight of his life against Astrocytoma Grade 4 Brain Cancer. He was first diagnosed at age 19 and had surgery on a tennis ball size tumor in the right frontotemporal area of his brain. From there he had chemotherapy and radiation. His scans were stable until he had a reoccurrence last February starting in the same tumor bed but it quickly and aggressively grew even with more rounds of chemotherapy and radiation and is still getting progressively worse.
His last scan indicates that it is now infiltrating other areas of the brain including down into the brain stem and they told us at our visit on January 13th that there are no other treatment options that Mayo can offer. His mobility is severely affected and we are needing to make some accessibility changes to our house to make it easier for him to get around. We are also pursuing other more holistic and integrative options to help to stop his tumor growth all of which will be coming out of our pocket because, of course, insurance doesn't pay for those.
All of the travel to and from Mayo over the last 4 years has affected us financially in a big way. I have been working a second job but with things the way they are now, I am quitting that job so that I can be home with Alex more. He has been having more frequent seizures so most likely I will need to cut back on hours at my primary job as well. It is hard to ask for help and I have had several people reach out to tell me that I should create a gofundme so that we can get the help we need. If anyone would like to help us in this way, we would be eternally grateful. And above all, please pray for Alex. For healing, for hope, for direction to find options that will work, and for time.
