A little back story ...
I met Chris and Shelly Long five years ago as we became Billet Parents for Decatur Blaze Hockey, quickly learning they were an awesome family with so much to give! They have been huge supporters of Decatur Blaze Hockey and at times have had 4-5 extra kids living with them (Great Billet Parents) for months at a time. Chris was Scout Executive for the Lincoln Trails Council of Boy Scouts of America. Their only son is very active with Boy Scouts and plays Hockey for Decatur Youth Hockey Assoc. (DYHA).
I knew that Chris had fallen ill, just over a year ago. I hadn't seen them other than praying for them multiple times after seeing Facebook updates, until I ran into Shelly at the store right before Christmas. After speaking with her for a few minutes my heart was completely broken (how can such good people be going through so much) so Myself and a few others are rolling up our sleeves to help provide SOME relief for this great family !(As they would never ask for assistance) Zac Pearson (Decatur Blaze Coach/Owner) Kim Taylor (President of Decatur Varsity Hockey) and myself (heartbroken friend) have teamed up "TO LOVE THE LONGS" this is where we need your help ( even if you can only spare $5.00)
Chris became ill with a very common illness but due to being diabetic it quickly became much worse , he went septic and has lost liver and kidney function .Chris is in need of transplants, for future hope of healing , however he was removed from the list due to his strength and the risk of surgery was to great , all that can be done is dialysis , hope , and prayers that he gains enough strength to make it back on the transplant list. Chris has been in the hospital in St Louis and Decatur for many months leaving Shelly to work full time, take care of their son, her Billet kids, her house work, laundry, insurance , BILLS , BILLS , and more Bills and also find time visit Chris daily.
How can you help? Donations, time (reach out to them for after school help for their son) gift cards anything that would alleviate the burden of a major financial event that they are suffering from.
