Pender Fiddlers to Finland!
The Pender Island Young Violins are headed to Finland in July 2020 to perform at the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival!
For these 9 musicians, ages 13 to 17 years old who have been practicing and performing since they were very young, this is a trip of a lifetime. The fiddlers have been taught by Denny Goertz. His incredible dedication and guidance over these many years is clearly evident through the talent of these youth.
The youth will not only get to perform in front of an international audience and showcase Pender Island on a world stage, but also this trip will be an invaluable cultural experience.
Throughout the next many months, the young musicians and their families will be actively fundraising outside of this Go Fund Me campaign. The total trip cost is much more than listed above. It is important to us that you know that each musician is responsible for covering a portion of their own trip costs. So please keep a look out for their upcoming concert performances, busking, and other local events.
We thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and for your ongoing support. The Pender Island community has always embraced the youth of this island in such a beautiful way. We believe the way in which the kids of Pender are being held by the community, is largely responsible for the way in which they have grown.
So much gratitude,
The Pender Young Violins,
Taeven, Katie, Lauren, Owen, Cedar, Annika, Nuala, Meredith & Isla.
Additional Info:
*This account has been set up by Joanne Green, a parent of one of the young musicians. Joanne is coordinating the on-line fundraising on behalf of the other parents and teacher, Denny Goertz. We live on Pender Island, British Columbia. The raised funds will be used to buy airfare to and from Finland and other related travel expenses. The money raised will be transferred to an Islands Savings bank account managed by Denny Goertz (violin teacher) and another parent (David Boyd). Thank you, Joanne.
