Black Street Foundation Canada is a community-driven non-profit organization dedicated to empowering and uplifting Black and Caribbean communities through direct aid, education, and rebuilding initiatives.
On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa slammed into Jamaica as a Category 5 storm with winds up to 185 mph (295 km/h) — the strongest hurricane ever to hit the island.
Entire communities were torn apart. More than 500,000 people lost power, homes and crops were destroyed, and floodwaters up to 13 feet submerged towns. Lives have been lost, and livelihoods shattered.
These are not distant strangers — they are our friends, family, and brothers and sisters in the Caribbean. Government aid alone cannot replace the homes, dignity, and dreams that were swept away.
At Black Street Foundation with collaboration with Kaywana Malcolm whose aunt lost her home, we are raising funds to help rebuild the home of 78 years old Cherry "Laurice" Darling, help restore her livelihoods, and bring hope during a time that she should be enjoying the fruits of her labour .All funds raised for the Jamaica Hurricane Relief Fund will go directly to Laurice Darling who was affected by Hurricane Melissa to help her rebuild her home, restore her livelihood, and recover with dignity.
We are committed to full transparency and accountability. Detailed reports on how every dollar is used will be shared publicly to ensure donors see the real impact of their generosity.
Cherry received a quote from a contractor that estimated that the cost with materials and labor for rebuilding will cost 3 million JMD ($18656.43 USD, $26,110.89 CAD).
Please donate today.
Every gift, no matter the size, brings light.
