In the early morning hours on January 27th I received a call from my mother stating my 14 year old brother was taken to the ER due to troubled breathing. After X-Rays of his chest were taken they took immediate action to get him to Children Hospital in Omaha, NE. Alex, had been battling flu like symptoms for a few weeks, so getting the news that it was possibly much more serious was very sudden for my family. A few days later my little brother was diagnoses with T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. It's a very aggressive cancer that attacks the lymph system. (For more information please click on the link below.) Children's hospital medical staff did such an amazing job finding a diagnosis and helping my family feel at ease, yet Alex spent nearly two and a half weeks in the hospital. His treatment will consist of 32 months of Chemotherapy Regiment and spinal taps which add chemo directly into his spinal fluids. He also will be doing Physical Therapy due to his steroid treatment eating away at the muscle tissue in his legs.
Alex is currently home, yet his immune system is so weak he cannot attend school, or leave the house much. He has a tutor that comes by three times a week to insure he doesn't fall behind in school work and stays one track in his educational development. We decided to reach out due to the adding medical costs of his care. My family has reach there out of pocket maximum of $8,000; little things such as medications, creams, and Physical Therapy are also extra expenses not covered through insurance. We were very apprehensive to reach out as people have taken advantage of this resource, but his medical bills will be continual for at least the next 32 months. Anything is appreciated and will only be to fund Alex's recovery.
