My nephew Jacob was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) on July 18, 2015. He also is autistic. I have started this page to raise money to help my sister Kendra with the medical bills that insurance will not cover during Jake’s battle with AML.
For those of you who do not know my sister, you are really missing out and for those whom do, you know her spirit, outspoken personality and her giant heart. She is a wonderful mother, great sister and loving friend and daughter. She loves her son and would do anything for him.
Jake is a happy 7 year-old who loves the water and playing outside. He knows how to fight and beat the odds as Jake was diagnosed with autism a few years ago. After much work and a great school & teachers, Jake graduated from the 1st grade this past fall.

The medical bills will be high and any support we can give will help to lighten the load and allow the family to focus on Jake and his battle.
They are in the hospital now. All of Jake's blood and marrow tests are done for now. They need to wait 24 hours for the results. They are testing to see if his leukemia is AML or ALL. He is also being tested for a genetic disorder. Chemotherapy will start as soon as we get the results. Thank you again for all your thoughts and prayers.

“In acute myeloid leukemia (AML), too many immature white blood cells (called myeloid blasts) are made. These leukemia cells are abnormal and cannot mature into normal white blood cells. This type of leukemia affects 20% of kids with this cancer of the blood cells.
Thanks to advances in therapy and clinical trials, the outlook for kids with AML is promising. With treatment, most are cured. In acute myeloid leukemia (AML), too many immature white blood cells (called myeloid blasts) are made. These leukemia cells are abnormal and cannot mature into normal white blood cells.
