Dear friends and family,
Over Memorial Day weekend, Jackie Henning Mollenkamp—our mom and a proud grandma to five grandchildren—suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke caused by Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy (CAA). She underwent emergency brain surgery and, miraculously, woke up with her personality, sense of humor, and memory fully intact. However, the stroke impacted the part of her brain that controls movement on the left side of her body, initially paralyzing her left arm and leg.
Since May, Jackie has been in therapy and is making steady progress. She has regained some movement in her left leg and has even begun walking short distances with the help of a walker. She is working hard to continue the momentum and to regain movement in her left arm.
Up until her stroke, Jackie worked as a social worker for Washington County, supporting the most vulnerable children and families. She was the mom and grandma who would drop everything for her kids and grandkids, making sure they had a sitter for a date night or coming to care for them when they were ill. Jackie was a woman who woke up for 5am swims and took 50-mile bike rides with her biking group on the weekends. She has given so much to her community and her family—we want to return that support and make sure she has every advantage to heal and regain her independence and get back to all the hobbies she loves.
We’re not usually ones to ask for help, but many people have reached out asking how they can support Jackie during her recovery. In addition to your visits, texts, and calls—which mean so much— financial support would also make a big difference.
We’re raising funds to help cover essential equipment not covered by insurance, which Jackie needs to return home safely and continue her rehabilitation. These include:
Wheelchair lift – $8,000
Electric wheelchair – $3,000
Rehab and medical equipment (Saebo stim and mirror, hand and foot bike, braces, circulation compressors) – $1,000
Any contribution is appreciated and will go directly toward helping Jackie regain her mobility and independence. Thank you for your love, encouragement, and support.
With love and gratitude,
Molly, Amy, & Charles
