After several years of unexplained 'dizzy spells,' Katie was finally diagnosed with a cavernous hemangioma. This tangle of blood vessels in her right temporal lobe is actively leaking blood into her brain causing what we had previosuly called 'dizzy spells' but were, in fact, seizures. As the seizures became worse, her neurologist prescribed an anti-convulsant which, after several months of dosage experimentation, began working with minimal side effects. Unfortunately, after six months seizure free, the medication stopped working. Another medication was attempted but we quickly discovered that the side effects were unbearable. Now, after almost two years of this process, Katie's neurosurgeon feels it is time to operate and remove the mass. On May 22nd Katie will be undergoing a craniotomy which will be followed by a 4-6 weeks recovery process during which she will not be able to work doing what she loves, teaching preschool. However, we are hopeful for an end to this long, difficult, often painful process. With both Owen and Milo enrolled full time in preschool and unknown medical bills imminent, should you wish to help the family through this time with a monetary donation, we would be so grateful. Please know that any amount given will be put to use for the boys, bills, and meal services while Katie recovers and slowly returns to work.
