Have you ever been around someone who lights up the room with his smile?
If you haven't it's because you have not met this handsome young man. This man's name is Freddie Ordaz.
Freddie was born with Cerebral Palsy, seizure disorder, scoliosis, osteopenia and is a quadriplegic. He requires maximum assistance to do every single thing we do daily. Such as feeding, turning, dressing, and bathing. In order to survive God gave him an angel that is always by his side. Her name is Maricela Ordaz, his mother. She has done an excellent job with his care, that Freddie can now speak and have regular conversations.
Unfortunately, Maricela has been striken with breast cancer. This has added stress to their family. His father and siblings have been a real team in helping with the care of Maricela and Freddie. This has caused a tremendous financial strain on an already delicate income. His father is the only one working. Medical bills are piling up.
Freddie is wheelchair bound. The only transportation Freddie and Maricela have is a very old van that breaks down often, has no A/C, or heater. It is not handicapped equipped to securely place Freddie in. He needs to be carried out of his wheelchair like a baby and placed in a regular car seat. His wheelchair is then placed inside of the van unsecured, cramping Freddie and anyone else in the van. This is a major health risk for Freddie and his parents. He is most secure in his wheelchair. Every time he is out of it, his fragile bones can break, which has happened before.
During the summer the van becomes an oven. Freddie does not have the same defense mechanism as a "normal" person has. Due to the paralysis and nerve damage, he cannot realize his skin may be pressing against something, he cannot perspire in the same manner as we do to help control body temperature. Maricela has had surgery to remove her cancer and is currently receiving chemotherapy. Therefore, her immune system is weak. All of these existing medical conditions for both Freddie and his mom, along with an unreliable vehicle, can cause them to become very ill. Maricela is a fighter and keeps strong for her family. Freddie has not once complained or felt sorry for himself. By the way, he has an identical with no handicaps. He is a happy guy and loves his family and friends. They deserve a properly equipped, functional, handicapped van. This is a plea to make Freddie's smile even bigger by helping to raise money to buy him a new, Safe Ride. It would be wonderful to be able to provide him with a new van, but it would be as great to get him a used van with A/C.
Anything you can donate would be greatly appreicated. Thank you and God bless!
Sincerely,
Freddie's Family/Friends
