Brooklyn's Backpack Drive
Hello, backpackers! For the past seven summers, you have helped me fill backpacks for Kansas City children heading back to school. I am back to ask for your help again in supporting my 8th annual backpack drive. I am organizing this donation drive on Go Fund Me and will, as well, hold our collection party for backpacks full of school supplies on August 14 at Crows Coffee in Waldo, Kansas City. Once again, with your help, I will raise monetary donations to purchase, fill and deliver backpacks to Salvation Army Corps Community Centers where families can pick them up.
In addition to this Go Fund Me page, I have committed weekends in July and August to reach out to family, neighbors and local businesses to ask for their support. To allow for more backpacks filled, I also offer the option to donate new, unused school supplies that I can organize and distribute as needed. I have researched what new school supplies are on the KC Public Schools list for the 2021/22 school year to make sure kids at school don’t fall behind.
To date, your support has helped Brooklyn's Backpack Drive benefit upwards of 1,400 children in the Kansas City metro. This has allowed the parents of these children to put their resources toward feeding the family and cooling their homes during the hot back-to-school time. I am again partnering with The Salvation Army for distribution because of their 8 locations in the metro, allowing for the school supplies to go to where the need is greatest.
Your support allows us to impact children for an entire school year. In the backpacks we provide are a complete set of school supplies for the year.
My goal this year is 200 filled backpacks. There are two ways for supporters to donate. One is by making a monetary donation here on Go Fund Me, in which case I will do the school supply shopping for you. The second, if you're local to the Kansas City area, you can purchase a backpack filled with the supplies listed in the attached flyer, and drop it off to our collection party at Crows Coffee on August 14th.
Any donation amount helps! The average cost of a backpack full of supplies is $30-$50. I appreciate your help and support over the past years and hopefully again in 2021. Thank you!
