Help Prevent Eviction After Medical Crisis
Donation protected
In May, my doctor scheduled me for a surgical procedure. Recovery time was needed and with no remaining PTO at work, I was forced to sign up for temporary disability. The surgery was on May 22nd and I was to return to work on June 10th. The first week off was the waiting period for the disability company so I received no pay during that time. After that, I was to receive approximately 60% of my usual salary. During that time, I'd also have to cover my health insurance premium out of pocket.
Unfortunately, I suffered numerous and severe surgical and post-op complications. The actual surgery ended up taking twice as long as expected in order to remove all of the damaged areas, lesions, and scar tissue. The adhesions to nearby organs were so severe that my doctor had to call in a 2nd surgeon midway through the operation to assist. The lidocaine injection used as a nerve block (to manage post-op pain) caused a reaction and chemical burns to my skin at both injection sites as well as all incision sites (5 as the surgery was performed laparoscopically).
Because of all of the unexpected damage and complexity, I was ordered by my surgeon to be on bed rest for over 6 weeks (3 times longer than expected). I am still not back to work yet and the financial fallout from surgery continues to mount. I have no savings and between the surgical and medical-related costs (my insurance is only covering a portion and I'm still waiting on the separate bill from the anesthesiologist) plus short term disability only paying me 57% of my usual salary, I have received a repossession warning for my car and an eviction notice from the property management company where I live. I do not have any credit cards to help with expenses either so all of my prescriptions, groceries, pet food etc also have to come out of the disability payments received.
Right now, the most URGENT deadline is July 13th to prevent eviction. Unfortunately, the property management company will not accept a partial payment at this point.
Any amount that you can afford would mean so much. If you can share this fundraiser's link on all of your socials as well, that would be amazing. Thank you!
