Hey everyone, my name is Beth and this fundraiser is for my daughter Zoë-Rene (she's a 3yr old pit/lab). I recently recieved news that Zoë's left ACL is torn and she needs surgery right away to repair it, and remove some bone spurs that have developed. She also has some tearing on her right ACL that will also require surgery in the next year. The vet has quoted us $4,500/knee. For those of you with kids of any variety, I'm sure you can imagine how devastating it was to hear this news.
I adopted Zoë-Rene back in 2018. I was on disability, dealing with PTSD, and afraid to leave my house. My best friend Ryan came over and took me to the SPCA; trying to get me out of the house by claiming there is nothing better than the love of a pup. We both knew when we saw her, that Zoë needed to come home with us. She was the only dog in the entire shelter that didn't bark, she didn't rush the cage. She simply slowly walked up, placing her head on the back of the other pit in the cage, so that her nose barely touched the fence. You could tell she had been through something too, and I think that's probably why we took to each other instantly. I was broke at the time, so I couldn't adopt her right away, but I went back every day to check on her, take her for a walk, and just hang out in the sun. Visiting Zoë-Rene was the only thing that got me out of the house those days. But finally, a couple weeks later, my roommate Michael helped me out and I was able to adopt her! And we've been together ever since.
I started training Zoë right away to be a support dog. She has her own trauma (she was left abandoned in the rain, tied up in the bed of a hollowed out pickup) and that's made it tough at times, but she has come so far. I like to think we both have. We began our mutual therapy by spending our days in nature and at the Disc Golf courses in town. We learned how each other moved, what would set me off, and was startling for her. We were inseparable, and Zoë hepled me feel strong enough to start living in the world again. After a year I was able to return to work, currently as a caregiver. I wouldn't have made it through without her. Zoë-Rene is the best part of my day, and often what gets me going. She is by my side always, except when I'm at work, though I know we would both love it if she was with me there too haha. She is my constant protector and my sweet baby.
Zoë-Rene still has so much life to live, and I want her to be strong and pain-free while she lives it. Which means I gotta come up with the 10k to get my baby into surgery. And that's where this gofundme, and you insanely kind people, come in. Anything helps, and Zoë and I wanna say in advance how grateful we are for your love and support.
