Hi my name is Evie, and this is to help my dog Zooey.

I rescued him about 2 1/2 years ago, and he'll be eight in August. He was severely neglected for the first part of his life. When I first got him he was 35 pounds under weight and completely covered in fleas as well as other medical concerns. We nursed him back to health and gave him all the medical care he needed. He has been thriving for the past two years.

Last week we got some very sad news at his annual vet appointment. It took multiple vet visits to finally understand what was going on after his blood test came back irregular. The day after his annual exam, my vet called me and told me to go to the emergency room with him immediately so that they could do an ultrasound on his heart. He was diagnosed with pericardial effusion which from my research and what the vet has told us, he has fluid buildup in his heart cavity as well as a tumor on his heart.

Unfortunately, with his age and the stage we found it at there was nothing we can do. To moving forward we are entering the palliative care stage of his life. The shock and grief of all of this has been immensely challenging. On top of this, the bills to get him diagnosed and the ones moving forward are creating further stress.

I'm making this GoFundMe to help the financial hardship as well as make Zooey as comfortable as he can be for the rest of his life.

The remainder we raise will be used for whatever else may come up in his palliative care, including vet visits and medication.

Any funds raised through this campaign that exceed our spending, we will donate to the Humane Society of Chittenden County’s Community Pet Clinic, which provides low-cost veterinary care services to people for whom affording or obtaining medical care is a challenge.
