Hello! My name is Zoja (some of you know me by my middle name, Anthony). I've been out as a non-binary transmasculine person since 2012 and I've been waiting nearly as long to get top surgery. After a series of insurance issues and delays spanning the past 4 years, I'm finally scheduled for February. I couldn't be more excited. This fundraiser is meant to cover medical bills and expenses related to the procedure.
I'm currently serving a term as an Americorps Promise Fellow at a high school in Minneapolis. I'm incredibly lucky to be in a position where (barring any complications) I'll be able to return to work after minimal time off and my primary source of income won't be interrupted by my recovery. However, my insurance is only paying a portion of the surgery cost and the stipend I receive for living expenses is not enough to cover the rest even with the lowest possible monthly payment.
Receiving top surgery is going to improve my quality of life in ways that I'm sure I don't even know the extent of yet. It's impossible to explain how excited I am at the idea of just putting on a shirt. Clothing never seems to fit right and I've bound my chest almost daily for years to manage my dysphoria. Sometimes the resulting shoulder and back pain has interrupted my ability to work or live life normally. I can't wait to get dressed in the morning or walk around in a tank top on a hot day or swim at a public pool without experiencing intense anxiety about my own body.
I'm so grateful for the care and assistance of my friends and family as I prepare for surgery and any and all support is deeply appreciated. If you're unable to donate then just sharing this fund is incredibly helpful.
Thank you thank you thank you! Love you 'til I'm dead!
