Zoey's Urgent Care
*Warning Graphic Photos*
My sweet Zoey was rushed to Lakeside Emergency Vet Hospital last night on Monday (4/5/21). Her health rapidly declined in a matter of hours. She didn't want to eat or drink anything, was vomiting, and was too weak to walk. Lakeside found fluid in her abdomen that is life-threatening. She is diagnosed with severe septic abdomen. Within less than an hour of bringing her to the ER they had to perform an emergency exploratory surgery. I was told that she may not survive the surgery. If she did make it through surgery, she would only have a 30% survival rate and would need to be hospitalized for several days to monitor her vitals, IV fluids, and medications.
At 12:30 am the surgeon updated me after her surgery. During the procedure her blood pressure and glucose dropped to dangerously low levels and had to be supplemented during and after surgery. They found an ulcer that ripped through her GI tract nearly 4 cm long. The chances of the sutures not holding and reopening are high. Multiple organs in her body are needing intervention to stay alive. I was told that she could go into cardiac arrest at anytime during the night and every 15 minutes she needed her vital signs rechecked. I ended up sleeping in the hospital's parking lot inside my car in case she didn't survive I wanted to be there for her. Zoey's surgery and overnight care was $3,427.
Later this morning around 9 am (4/6/21) Lakeside ran more bloodwork and performed another exam. They found that she needed a plasma transfusion and noticed that her lymph nodes were enlarged and needed to run more tests. To continue her lifesaving care would cost another $2,233.
I have no words to describe the utter heartbreak that this brings me. Zoey has been my baby girl and my emotional support dog since she was nearly 3 months old. I adopted Zoey and her littermate Lila together and they have never been parted. All throughout the day Lila has been whining and looking for her sister. Zoey is still at Lakeside in critical condition. She is just 6 years old and I can't give up on her. She made it through her surgery and through the night when the odds were against her. I am asking everyone to please keep Zoey in your thoughts and prayers. I set up this page for anyone that is willing and able to help Zoey get the lifesaving care she desperately needs right now.
