Zoe's Fund For Haiti

Donation protected
I am currently a Junior at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. I am studying Communication Studies with a minor in music. My goal is to work in ministry whether that be musical worship or high school or college ministry. I am also interning through Orchard Hill Church, in which I have learned an immense amount of information through hands-on experience.

I have been given the opportunity to spend another Spring Break serving at an amazing community in Bohoc, Haiti. United Christians International began in February 2005, with JeanJean and Kristie Mompremier's God-given desire to share JeanJean’s seminary training with the lay pastors of the area near Caiman (JeanJean’s home town). What began as a 3 month stay in the fall of 2005, has now grown into a nutrition center, health clinic, elementary school, university, seminary, and training center for medical and agricultural students. Today, UCI's vision for the future involves three primary objectives:

•Teaching The Word Of God
•Equipping Future National Leaders Through Education & Training
•Uniting Christians Around The World

This trip is being offered through BASIC, which is my campus ministry in Cedar Falls. BASIC is sponsored by Orchard Hill Church, Nazareth Lutheran Church, InterVarsity Christian Fellowship and Lampost Theatre Co. Orchard Hill Church has been serving alongside UCI for over ten years now.

I have decided to take advantage of this opportunity because I am interested in serving others and learning from others. I also am interested in learning about other cultures and opening my eyes to the difficult realities of those who live in third-world countries are faced with each and every day. I am hoping to grow in my faith and to learn how I can be a blessing to a broken world, wherever I am. The focus of our trip will be relationships. While we will be doing a lot of physical work, the long lasting fruit will be in our relationships. Relationship with God, with the community in Haiti, our team, ourselves and with God’s creation!

When considering if I should go back to Haiti, a lot of things crossed my mind; should I give someone else the opportunity to experience what I did last year? On top of rent, utilities, groceries and whatever other expenses that will come my way, will I be able to afford getting there? Will my professors allow me to miss class? After MUCH prayer and back and forth thoughts on whether to go or not, I have a very strong calling to Haiti, I’m supposed to be there. My heart lies with the people of Haiti and I just couldn’t not go back. This year I am very excited to say that I will be going to Haiti for two full weeks instead of one. There is a multi-generational trip the week before Spring Break that I will be attending and will stay with the BASIC crew as they arrive a week later!!

I have a $500 deposit due December 15, and the rest of my trip's funds will be due February 9.

Any extra funds raised will go directly to United Christians International. If you would like more information about UCI, you may visit ucihaiti.org to learn more!

If you are unable to support me in either of these ways, but would still be interested in hearing about my trip after I return, please still include a note in the return envelope, so I can include you on the mailing list. If for some reason I am unable to go on this trip, your contributions will go directly to support UCI in Haiti.

Thank you in advance for all of your support. I am aware that this trip would not be possible without people like you!

In HIS love,
Zoe Nanke
