Zoe's Trans-Canada Bike Ride for TBI

In 2013 I sustained a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a motor vehicle accident. I was heli-transported to the U of A Hospital acute care department, where I recovered following a 9-day coma.

I was told to never do sports again where I would need a helmet because any future concussions would have significantly decreased recovery. But I've always loved playing sports with helmets the most; cycling, snowboarding, hockey, and roller derby continue to be some of my favourites.

I took the following year off school to recover from my injury and during my recovery I came across Kevin Pearce's Crash Reel and later his LoveYourBrain campaign. The community, information, and direction towards yoga made available by this group was essential in helping me find my way through my own recovery and I would love to help support this foundation. Funds donated to this GoFundMe will all be redirected to the LoveYourBrain foundation to help them support people impacted by traumatic brain injuries.

For those who are interested in more details of my motor vehicle accident and the Good Samaritan, Maurice Poirier, that saved my life, Reader's Digest published the story and you can read it here: https://www.readersdigest.ca/culture/rescue-highway-63-how-one-good-samaritan-saved-woman/.
