On Sept. 26, 2015 our daughter was having a sleep over at a friend's house. I was called about 2am and was told that my daughter was having a seizure and was non-responsive and the ambulance was called. Zoe was transported to the ER and she had a CAT scan and it was normal. Her blood work and Xrays were normal. We scheduled an EEG and it came back normal and we scheduled another one for a few months out. During this time she had a few more seizures. During the first EEG consult they wanted to put Zoe on medications which her mother and I were against. We wanted to try alternatives that were natural so that she would not have to experience the side effects of traditional seizure medications.
Zoe has seen a few different doctors; DOMs and other alternative doctors, which helped adjust her diet and recommended supplements and minerals. These have helped. We also did 20 sessions of Nuero biofeedback which was about $5000. This helped also, especially for the seizures she was having in her sleep. She started having more seizures during the day and they were becoming pretty violent so we decided to try a CBD oil, Charlotte's Web, which is especially designed for children with seizures and this seemed to help.
But Zoe continues to have seizures and now that she is in school she has had a few at school. Zoe has had seizures while in the store. Zoe is not allowed to even go to the bathroom at school without someone with her because she might have a seizure. Zoe's primary care physician recommended that we look into an assistance service dog, which Zoe's mother did. This is a long process and very expensive, $6000. These are dogs that would be able to detect a seizure before they happen. This would allow her to not have to be supervised all of the time. We have had a fund raiser and several people have suggested creating a gofundme account so that they can also donate to help out.
As I mentioned, we are trying alternatives to tradional medications due to side effects. Unforunately these alternatives are expensive and not covered by my insurance. If you feel compelled to help us out and donate we would be truly grateful. Every little bit helps. Thank you ahead of time.
