Zoe K. Santana Education Fund Memory Jane Kingston

It is with great sadness that the family of Jane Marie Kingston, 57, announces her passing after a long battle with depression and cancer, on Thursday, November 26, 2020. Born in Flushing, Queens to Susan Josephine Dolan and Paul J Kingston, Sr., she moved with her family to East Durham, New York and attended Cairo-Durham High School.

After working in the health-care industry for many years she opted to return to school and earn her degree in nursing from Columbia-Greene Community College. Her heart inspired her return to New York City (Woodlawn-The Bronx), with her daughter Shannon. She worked post-op and recovery as a Registered Nurse at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery, where Jane enjoyed a fulfilling career, with her patients loving her bedside manner and her sarcastic personality during their sometimes long and arduous recuperation. An unfortunate work-related injury necessitated her retirement, which she spent in North Carolina with her devoted daughter Shannon Santana, son-in-law Manauris, cherished granddaughter Zoe and her dog Lucy.

Jane is also survived by her beloved mother Josie Dolan of Greenville NY, her brothers Paul of Attleboro MA., Kevin of Washington DC., and Michael (Kelly) of West Sand Lake NY; sisters Joanne Kingston of Albany NY and Patricia (Steven) Haaland of Cairo NY; niece Rebecca Haaland and nephews Ryan Kingston and Kristofer Haaland. Jane was predeceased by her father, Paul, and brother, Aidan.

Jane enjoyed walks with Zoe and Lucy, old-time movies especially ones starring John Wayne, Katherine Hepburn, and Cary Grant; shows like I Love Lucy (hence the name of her dog), Bewitched, The Walton’s, Andy Griffith and most recently The Great British Banking Show. She loved driving fast in her sports car, a good steak-and-potato dinner, and a cup of tea alongside a slice of Irish soda bread with extra butter.

We are profoundly grateful for Transitions Life Care, especially her home hospice Nurse, Brittney. Brittney went above and beyond to respect our wishes and bring us comfort. Reverend Catherine and "Dr. D" facilitated a peaceful transition for Jane. Thank you for all your team does for the patients and their families during the end of life journey.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, services will be held at a later date. Jane valued education very much and asks for any donations to be made in her memory to Zoe K. Santana.
