About ZOAH

ZOAH is a non-profit association dedicated to animal welfare and community education.

We aim to create spaces where dogs and cats can be cared for with dignity —

and where families and schools can learn the true value of respect and empathy towards our four-legged companions.

Now, we’re ready to take the next step:

to open the first ZOAH Community Animal Refuge in Portugal.

A space where every animal will have comfort and freedom,

and where people can learn to care with love and responsibility.

Message from the Founder

My name is António Carvalho, and like thousands of people in Portugal, I live in an apartment with my dog.

I love him deeply, but every day I feel he deserves more —

more space, more freedom, more time with me.

I leave in the morning and return only at night.

During the day, he stays alone, confined between four walls.

He can’t run, play, or explore.

And even with all the love I give him, sometimes it feels like it’s not enough.

Some days he barks out of loneliness.

Other days he makes a mess because he’s bored.

And deep down, I know the problem isn’t him —

it’s the lack of real solutions for people who live with animals in small spaces and have little time.

That’s why I created ZOAH.

ZOAH was born from the guilt and helplessness that so many families feel —

but transformed into action.

We want to create spaces where dogs and cats can once again be free, happy, and healthy,

while their owners gain peace of mind, time, and well-being.

ZOAH is the meeting point between love for animals and human quality of life.

It’s the balance that was missing — between the human home and animal freedom.

With your support, we’ll build the first ZOAH Community Space —

a place that gives back to animals what concrete has taken away: space, nature, and joy.
