Eight years ago our mom was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. Her journey on oral chemotherapy started then, and it has been a long, and often difficult, road for us as a family. She is unable to tolerate the medications required to keep her well, and last week at MD Anderson, her physicians started her down the path of a bone marrow transplant.
The next phase of this journey is going to be challenging for her, both physically as well as financially. This is where Team Karen comes to the rescue. While insurance does pay for the transplant itself, there are still so many expenses that need to be accounted for during the year that she is out of work. Her hospitalization for the bone marrow transplant will begin in July so the sooner we can get funds set aside for all of her medical and living expenses the easier it will be for her to relax and just focus on staying strong and healthy.
