Need help getting below the knee prosthetic
Donation protected
- In July I was diagnosed with soft tissue & connective tissue sarcoma. ( Cancerous tumor on my foot ) On July 1st, I had half of my right foot amputated ( transmetatarsel amputation) to remove all of the cancer and the front portion of my foot. Unfortunately, my incision would not heal, and I got a bad bacterial infection. On August 25th, I returned to the University of Miami and they were unable to treat the infection so I had to have a below-the-knee amputation of my right leg. I am so lucky that all of my scans showed the cancer did not spread, and it was all removed. All of this has happened so fast. I still can not believe my right leg is gone. I am paying out of pocket for private insurance because I was outside of enrollment for the affordable care act coverage. The policy I have has a deductible of $15,000. Everything has been out of pocket until I meet that deductible ( I am so close ). Once I complete the deductible, the insurance will pay 80%, and I will pay 20%. I spoke with the insurance, and I was told typically, they only cover prosthetics if it s medically nessacary. I hope they consider this medically nessacary because I sure do. I went for my follow-up on 9/15/2022 and received good news for the first time in 6 months. Dr. Crawford said I am healing well, and she took almost all of my stitches out. I have six left that she will remove on 9/29/2022. Unfortunately, my insurance would not cover a home health nurse or medical equipment. Thank God for Chris changing my wounds and my parents got me all the medical equipment I need and of course all the donations I have received so far. It has been a huge help towards the hospital bill's, co pays, prescriptions, wound care supplies, gas to Miami multiple days a week etc.. Even if it is a small donation it adds up and is one step closer to getting my independence back. I am so lucky I can still work from home, but missing time for both surgeries, physical therapy and follow-up appointments in Miami is taking its toll on us. Please share this with your friends and family, I appreciate everyone helping me and my family. ❤
