A Safe Landing Fund for Kassi

Donation protected
Hi, LB here, and I’m doing this for my daughter, Kassi, because she is in a desperate situation. I wish that I had the resources to help her, but I do not, so I am reaching out to friends and family who may want to help.

This is a plea about domestic violence, the strength to leave it after many years, dealing with the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) created by the violence and the beginning of a new life.

This fund was created to help Kassi find a safe place to land and give her enough time to find a job to get back on her feet from so many years of dealing with abuse and trying her best to keep the family together.

Some of you know that Kassi has been in a relationship with Ron, for over 17 years, and they have a daughter, Star Jasmine.

They all moved from Santa Cruz to Oregon in 2003,   and on the surface things seemed fine but this was just  a vaneer and there were years of physical, verbal and alcohol abuse to come. Many times Kassi called me crying, scared and confused. I kept telling her to leave, but this kind of crazy love can play a dangerous game with hearts, and her dream of having a family and
keeping it together outweighed any critical thinking about domestic violence.

Kassi started going to college in OR, with hopes of becoming a social worker and she was an A student.   Her dreams were derailed when they decided to move  to Cave Junction in 2008. Things then escalated. He was arrested with just a phone call to the police, after Kass told me he hit her with a bat. Even though domestic violence classes were court ordered, the verbal and physical abuse continued.

Ron had hurt his back on a concrete job when he was in Santa Cruz, and filed a disability claim which lasted for over a decade. Kassi did all the paperwork, spoke to the lawyers, and kept it all together until finally they reached a settlement in 2012. When he got the money he   bought a house in Cave Junction and did NOT put Kassi’s name on the deed. The violence continued and finally the police got involved again, and eventually he was sent to prison and all together spent about 18 months incarcerated.

After she kept the house together during his absence in prison, when Ron was released he got a court order, because he is the sole owner, and she now needs to be out of the house by Friday, July 24th. She is selling all of the furniture she inherited from my mom, packing her belongings, having a friend take care of her beloved doggie, and leaving Cave Junction.  I am driving up there to help her and hopefully moving her but have little to go on and no clue how to pull this off. Timing is critical!

Unfortunately, Star will be staying with her dad, she is considered old enough to choose. It’s really very tragic, and when Star is old enough to understand how insideous domestic violence is, it will be a wake-up call for her!

Kassi has been in counseling and out-patient treatment to deal with her own issues and her mental state is improving. She doesn’t drive or currently have a job, so we are really needing a miracle or two! The only money she has will be from the yard sale. But I have confidence that Kassi will pull herself out of this and put her talents and abilities to work for her in a positive direction, given the opportunity. She  just needs a little time to re-establish herself.

This is the very short version of a long sad story. Anything you can give will help, even $1! I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to read this, please pass it on to anyone who knows Kassi, or anyone familiar with domestic abuse and wants to help a beautiful woman get her life back.
