Christine's IFMA Fighters Fund
Donation protected
I have been selected to represent Team Canada in the IFMA World Royal Cup 2015. The tournament runs through August 13-23 and is taking place in Bangkok, Thailand.
I am very honoured and excited for this amazing opportunity. I get to compete in Muay Thai, at the international level, in Thailand.
While I am over the moon for this opportunity, my bank account is not. Unfortunately, amateur athletes in Canada do not receive much support financially. None to be exact in the case of Muay Thai amateur athletes. My goal for this campaign is to raise enough money to offset the cost of flights and hotel for the event which is roughly $3000.00.
Any support from family and friends would be greatly appreciated!! Even the smallest of donations will help.
My Story
I had a difficult knee surgery that resulted in a pretty significant weight gain. My husband, Munesh, and I decided it was time to get back in shape and I was really pushing for us to sign up for Hot Yoga. Munesh was not interested in Hot Yoga so he proposed an alternative, Muay Thai. I told him I would try it once but if I didn’t like it, we would try Hot Yoga. He agreed and we went to Siam No 1 to for our free trial class. It was the most difficult workout I had ever experienced and I loved it!! That was 5 years ago and to this day I have not tried a Hot Yoga class.
I have consistently trained at Siam No 1 for the last 5 years 3-5 days a week. My goal was always to get in shape and strengthen my knee. I had no intentions of ever fighting. About 2 years ago, my Ajahn, Master Suchart, asked me to participate in an all women’s event, Fight for the Cure, supporting breast cancer research. I accepted the challenge and fought my first fight against a very tough opponent. I loved the experience and I have continued training and improving my skills.
My hard work over the years has paid off. I feel stronger than ever and I am so excited to compete at the international level in a sport that has brought so much to my life. Munesh and I have met incredible people in this sport, made some amazing friends, and trained with some of the best fighters in the world. We have also traveled to many events to support these fighters.
Muay Thai is my passion and consumes most of the free time in my life but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Thank you all for taking the time to read my story and support me if you can.
Love. Respect. Believe.
