I'm turning 50 on April 18th, and I'm sending Samuel Kamau to university. I feel cheeky asking for a birthday gift to help me make this goal, but I really want this and it might be a challenge to do on my own. Perhaps with the help of friends and family this birthday wish will become reality sooner rather than later.

Let me tell you why this is such a big deal to me. Sam is straight up genius. He is top of his high school class of over 300 and he has tremendous drive to achieve and do well. One day the world is going to know his name, but first we have to get him on a university campus. He is one of the children we have helped sponsor at the Caroline Mungai orphange in Kenya, and we do not feel like we can just wish him well and send him on his way once he graduates high school. He is very giving and humble, always tutoring the other kids at the home. He does not have parents or family to pay for tuition and books. But in a few years, when he graduates university we can all celebrate in his accomplishment as part of the family the Mungai's have nurtured. Even if you have just a little to chip in, you can be a part of this.

The Mungai's are dear friends so I know that every penny goes directly to the kids. Caroline Mungai was a student at Adelphi and the children's home was built to continue her legacy. From her example, we learned the philosophy of ubuntu: Humanity is not embedded in my person solely as an individual. We all reach a higher consciousness when we believe the other is part of ourselves.

I will be very grateful for any help with this gift, so you can imagine how excited Samuel will to be.
