Our Mom, Corinne Kelly (known to many as "Coco"), would kill us if she knew about it.
The Irish GIVE and do not take, and our parents are the most giving people.
Over the past 20 years, Coco has endured over 12 surgeries, just on her knees. Her initial injury was in 2002 when she slipped and fell on the linoleum in their kitchen. Her initial knee surgery was completely botched (they did not replace it at that time) and the subsequent damage went on from there.
Both of her knees have been replaced- twice, and have suffered infection requiring additional surgeries. Due to her self-employment, running an in-home day care for her entire 35 year career, she found she was ineligible for any disability pay from social security. She never collected any money and continued to work while taking almost no recovery time.
On November 20th of this year, while our dad helped her up from the couch following their dinner, the rod in her right leg, bent and fractured her femur. This was a complete freak accident, and a tragedy that resulted in an ambulance ride and almost immediate surgery. Luckily her leg was saved, but she now has a metal plate running the entire length of her thigh. The road to recovery will be long, as she currently is in a nursing care facility.
As you can imagine the medical bills have piled and piled over time, and will no doubt continue into next year, as she will need in home support and specific equipment to aid in her recovery.
The ask is to help eliminate medical bills and potentially purchase equipment for the long haul, such as a lift on the back of the car to carry her mobility scooter (the scooter has already been graciously donated).
Any contribution will not resolve the pain, but will provide some relief. Donations are tax deductible, but also do not need to be monetary, as emotional support, a warm visit, a homecooked meal, are all just as valued.
Thank you for reading this and for any healing prayers you can send.
