Stevie's Spinal Surgery

5 years ago Stevie, a beautiful brown Daschund came into our lives. We have watched him grow into the most loyal and loving dog in the world!! He is our best friend and a big part of our family. As all Daschunds, he is predisposed to having back and spinal chord injuries due to their long bodies. Last night, after spending some time in our back yard we noticed he was not himself and could not walk properly. After a few stretches he got back up so we thought maybe he just pulled a muscle. This morning at 5 am when it was time for his breakfast he was completely paralized from the waist down and could not move. He had the saddest look I've ever seen in his eyes so we knew something serious was wrong. We rushed him to the Vet and his doctor confirmed that Stevie had a bulging disk in his spine and would require a serious surgery to survive. She informed us that he still had feeling to his back legs which meant that was a sign the surgery would have a good prognosis. She stated 90% of Daschunds that have this surgery done within 48 hours of getting hurt would recover and have a normal life. If we waited more than 48 hours he would begin to have nerve damage which in turn could become life threatening and the chance of recovery would drop to 30%. We had to make a decision QUICK to make sure our puppy would survive. A $5500 surgery had to be performed today at 1:30pm. It entailed having an MRI done to see what disc was bulging. The MRI revealed Stevie not only had a bulging disk but there was already the evidence of cristalization which meant the trauma was severe. They operated, removed the cristalization and bulging disk and had to drill a hole in his spinal chord. She explained his spinal cord would swell up so they needed to allow room for the swelling so that's why drilling a hole was important. He did great during the surgery and is now in recovery. Seeing as how we did not have time to save money for this surgery I am asking you FAMILY AND FRIENDS to please help and donate to this fund so that we can pay for our baby Stevie's surgery.
