Melanoma Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hello Internet Family,
This past December, the cumulative years of being a ginger caught up to me. I had a mole removed from my ear that ended up being Melanoma. Despite my years of bathing in SPF 1000, wearing sun shirts, and wearing bucket hats at unfashionable moments, the sun came out on top.
I underwent slow Mohs surgery and subsequently had a helical hitch completed to repair my ear. As a current 3rd year OBGYN resident, it was interesting to spend time on the opposite side of the bed. For those unaware, medical residents do not make nearly enough (this is a separate issue). I was left with nearly $4,000 so far in medical expenses related to the care I had to have.
It feels strange and embarrassing to have graduated from medical school and yet find myself asking for support to cover necessary medical expenses. Yet, here I am asking for the kindness of those who see this to donate whatever they can. Money, sunscreen, political action toward restoring the ozone, whatever you like! I'm post call and desperate. A girl can only live off of Hospital food for so long.
With Love,
Karen
