URGENT: KIDNEY TRANSPLANT

Our team was at an organizing event, when we were approached by Belen, a 12 year old selling $5 bracelets she made by hand in order to raise funds for her family. We talked to Belen, her father just a few feet away with 3 young boys standing in the shade. We invited the family over and talked with Jose, here is his story.

Jose is a single father of 5 children, ranging from 6 years old to 16 years old. The family of 6 was living in California when he received the news he was suffering from kidney failure. He began to miss work due to his treatment and was soon was living out of hotels. However, he could no longer afford the hotels due to the due to the high cost of medical treatments. An opportunity came in Texas and he made the decision to travel to Texas to ensure his children had a home, while it is temporary, it was a decision he made to make sure his children had a roof over their heads. Unfortunately, the medical help is significantly different for undocumented families in Texas than it in California and due to his status he does not qualify for a kidney transplant. Jose receives dialysis 3 times a week and is unable to keep a steady job. Though he has been trying for his children, due to his condition he is in pain which he can receive temporary relief for however, he cannot afford the $187 monthly medication bill.

We’ve been working hard to reach out to our Oak Cliff community and extended it to DFW as we are finding resources are available for citizens but there are very limited resources for undocumented families. While we've been able to find places for food, since then Jose's vehicle was repossessed leaving food pantry's limited to those which are walking distance and unfortunately most food pantry's have a limit as to how many times you can receive assistance from them.

We're fundraising to help Jose pay for URGENT life saving medication for up to a year and we're hoping to raise enough funds to help the family of 6 with food, transportation, and clothes. If you could help with anything at all, please do & share this with your friends and family.
