Nates Quality of Life Surgery Fundraiser

Donation protected
As you may or may not know our son Nathaniel "Nate" was viscously attacked and mauled by a large breed dog in the June of 2014. Nates nose was completely amputated by the dog. His Doctors and Surgeons spent countless weeks trying to save it. Unfortunately the procedure was not successful.  It has been an extremely long, tough and tiresome journey. Nate has had to endure countless hours of multiple surgeries to get him to his current state. His mother had to resign from her work and cater to every surgery, treatments and appointments for the last several years. Its been a full time job for her on top of her everyday life.
His Doctor along side of his wonderful team at CHOC began exploring other options and were able to create a nose for him using skin grafting, utilizing cartilage in nates ear and then a nose flap.
The surgery worked to an extent. The current state of his nose is that although its fully functioning its not serving its purpose to him. He had major scarring and his nostrils began to close, even after a second attempt to open up his air pathway they closed up again.
Frustrating for Nate and to the whole family. Nate has formed sleep apnea and falls into a heavy sleep and wakes up every 30-45 minutes all night due to the lack of air able to flow through his nostrils. This has been his sleep pattern for going on 5 years now. He falls asleep in class and is starting to fall behind in his academics. He is having issues paying attention because he cant think straight due to lack of rest. When he catches a cold and gets stuffed up its almost impossible for him to breathe.

The procedure his doctor performed was perfected by a Doctor in Arizona named Dr. Menick who has published many books on the procedure. His Doctor actually seeked out his counsel on the procedure. Fast forward to this last summer we decided to reach out to him and took Nate to AZ for a consultation. Doctor Menick was confident that within two surgeries he could make enough corrections to increase Nates breathing quality and if it all possible shape parts of his nose during the procedure to help with the appearance of it. This would tackle two things. The First and most important is allowing Nate to actually breathe, blow his nose even pick his nose!! Increase a healthy sleep pattern which is good for his body and heart.
Second, even any minor changes to the appearance would really boost Nates confidence. He struggles with getting made fun of, gets a lot of looks and fingers pointed at him and its heart wrenching.
Doctor Menick doesn't not accept any type of health insurance. We have to pay for the surgery in full out of pocket. He is the BEST person for this procedure and we have been told if its not done correct this time around Nate could loose all his progress and we would struggle to start over again. Who wouldn't want the best for their child. Dr. Menick gave us an amazing beyond reasonable price to handle these procedures. If you could find it in your heart to help in any way or even share this page we would appreciate it and be forever grateful.
