Justice for Joshua

Donation protected
Joshua Blair, a 22 year-old black man and father of two, has been locked up and separated from his family by Gallatin County’s racist criminal justice system. Bozeman United for Racial Justice is asking our community to step up and donate towards Joshua's Bond. On May 1st, Joshua Blair was charged with a property crime involving six vehicles. He has been held in the Gallatin Valley Detention Center for over a month and has missed the birth of his daughter. Joshua has no criminal record and maintains his innocence. His cash bond is currently set at $500,000, one of the highest bond amounts in Gallatin County.

White people in Gallatin County charged with similar or far more egregious crimes have been given a bond as much as ten times lower than Joshua’s.
-Gary Adams, arrested for burglary last Saturday. Bond set at $35,000, race: white.
-Daniel French, arrested for sexual abuse of a child. Bond set at $35,000, race: white
-Brody Broles, arrested for sexual abuse of children, strangulation, assault. Bond set at $50,000, race: white.
-Chad Basaites, charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence. Bond set at $50,000, race: white.
-Gage Caurrier, charged with child rape, unlawful transaction of alcohol with a child. Bond set at $100,000, race: white.

Joshua’s incarceration and the absurd, half-a-million dollar bond separating him from freedom and his family lay bare the racist inequalities that define America, and that people all across the country are rising up against. The only difference between Joshua and those with similar or worse crimes is that he is a black man and they were white.

We are calling upon our community to step up and fight the systemic racism in our town and demand justice for Joshua, and for all BIPOC in our community. On Wednesday, June 10th 2020, we will be organizing an action for Joshua's bail to be reduced to $25,000. We need 10% of this to allow Joshua to return home. Bozeman United and the BIPOC community need allies to donate towards his bond. This would allow him to return home to his fiance and two young children, and show up for his final court date online.
