Most of you don't know but recently my mother Lori Kellogg was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Esophagus. In layman's terms, she has esophageal cancer. She and our whole family are devestated. In 2006 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a bilateral mastectomy , chemo and radiation she beat it! She fought a very long and hard fight. We all know what she is up against again.
Just when we thought hearing of this diagnosis was bad enough, we found out that she has no active health insurance. My mom is 65 years old so we immediately applied for Medicare only to find out that open enrollement isn't until January 2024. This is not a qualifying event to obtain it sooner. She needed to start treatment weeks ago and certainly doesn't have 8 months to wait. We have social workers as well as family friends in the insurance field working tirelessly on trying to get her on plan.
In the meantime bills are stacking up. Due to the growth in her esophagus she is unable to swallow food. She is currently living off of pureed foods and meal replacement shakes which too are expensive. She has to go to the hospital to recieve fluids which is all out of pocket. My mom rarely asks for anything from anyone but she needs our help now more than ever. If you are able to help, even the smallest amount we would forever be grateful. It would be amazing if we can all help to take a tiny bit of stress away while she takes this on. This fundraiser isn't the end goal for my Mom's care. It's a stepping stone to allow her to continue to fight while we work on getting her health insurance. Every dime raised will go towards helping her pay bills and assist with food and travel expenses. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! #hopeforlori
