Hi all, my name is Jodi Turton, many of you might know me as Mackie in There.com
I am setting up a GoFundMe campaign for our dear friend, Evan Kirk (aka EvanK in There.com) who left us too soon.
Evan had a lonely life offline, only a handful of us had the fortune and blessing to meet him. However, as we all know, even if you knew Evan solely online, you know that the friendship and relationship you had with him was more than virtual- the bond was real, and it was incredible.
Evan lit up every space he entered, virtual or not, his laugh was infectious and his wit was smart and quick. Evan loved a good dialogue, and he loved a heated debate even more...even if it was simply about Pizza.
Evan always knew what to say in every situation to help someone feel better, and his skills to tie a community together are unparalleled. The man had some serious glue.
He was many things to many people; not only our father figure, but our brother, our partner in crime, our Quing, our best friend, our confidante, and of course our entertainment. The internet will never be the same.
I have spoken to Evan's Momma recently- man oh man, that apple did not fall far from the tree! Hearing her voice made my heart just melt. She had the same accent, the same manner of speaking, and she was funny even amidst all of this pain. In speaking to her, it was clear that his death has created a financial burden.
While we don't have information about what events led to our friend's death, there is no doubt that there was suffering involved. I am going to ask you all to do something for me, I would like to ask you all to take a moment and think of something you could live without for a month; perhaps your weekly pizza delivery, or coffee, or a movie, and please donate it to his Momma to help her during this time. Evan LOVED his Momma, and would want to do whatever he could to help her.
I tried setting up a Memorial Fund at her bank, but it wasn't user friendly- and while I'm sure it's on everyone's bucket list to wire money, it just didn't seem like we should have to work that hard in the year 2015. GoFundMe just seemed much easier. I'll collect whatever funds we can raise, and deliver it to her when I visit her. (I'm going to visit her soon to show her the Evan we know. She had no idea he had so many friends!)
Evan's Momma loves you all, simply because you loved her son.
Thank you, and I wish you all peace.
