Zio's Road To Recovery vs Neuroblastoma

My name is Bridget and I am creating this fundraiser for the sweetest boy, Zio. Zio's mom (Chrissy) and Dad (Bret) are dear friends of mine and have been faced with devastating news. Their joyous, curious, sweet little Z man was diagnosed with neuroblastoma on 4/2/2022 after a CT scan discovered a large mass in his abdomen.

 

Their world was turned upside down overnight. 

 

Zio had been showing signs of not feeling well; he stopped wanting to eat (a major love of his), play, and even talk as much - and his parents knew this was not typical for their lively 18-month-old boy. They immediately flagged everything to their pediatrician and made several trips to after-hours clinics where they were advised to watch out for fever or vomiting. Soon after, Zio woke up from vomiting in his sleep. It was then that they rushed him to the ER in the middle of the night and got the news that made their hearts sink and completely changed their life in an instant.

 

Zio is being treated by a world-class team of oncologists and specialists at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in San Francisco. After several blood transfusions, biopsies, MRIs, CTs, draining, and one round of chemo, Zio and his family are still sitting in the ICU where he's intubated and being monitored very closely. They have a long road ahead with an 18-month treatment plan for stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma. This treatment plan will include 5 rounds of chemotherapy, stem cell harvesting, surgery, 2 bone marrow transplants, radiation, and finally, immunotherapy. This kind of medical care and attention is costly and both Zio's parents will be taking a leave from their jobs to care for their son.

 

Zio lives with his loving parents, Chrissy and Bret, and fiercely loyal Rhodesian ridgeback, Kaya, in Northern California. 

 

Help us rally around the Winter-Mueller family as they face some of the scariest and uncertain days, weeks, and months ahead. My goal is to come together and take some of the financial burden off of them so they can focus on getting Zio back to his healthy, happy, spirited self. Zio is love and so are they.
