Hello everyone!
I had the privilege of volunteering at the Zion Medical Community Clinic this month. They have welcomed me with open arms and I would love to repay their kindness. I am asking all my friends and family to please consider donating to this selfless cause. This is a pay-as-you-can clinic open to all, run by volunteers located in the mountains 30km from the Mbale district in Eastern Uganda. They serve over 5,000 people and aim to tackle the challenges this population faces being isolated including poverty, access to healthcare, education, and many other social determinants of health. For example, 95% of the population lives on less than 1 dollar USD a day. The staff are unpaid, working out of the kindness of their heart and covering costs out of their own pockets along with donations and small patient contributions. Patients receive full consultations, assessments, and treatment for usually 1 USD if they can afford it. The community also partakes in community outreaches in education and vaccinations on top of treating anyone who walks through the door. This money will be going towards supplying them with much-needed equipment such as pulse oximeters and medications, operational costs, and moving towards more self-sustainable projects.
