Zimbabwe Cholera: Water Relief Fund

There is cholera in Harare right now. 20 people have died and over 2000 cases reported since September 2017. Woke up to the news that Vibrio cholerae , the bacteria that causes cholera has been detected in boreholes and wells in Harare. The question I had was , HOW ARE PEOPLE GOING TO SURVIVE? Then I thought maybe collectively, like we have always done as Zimbabweans we can be of help.
WHAT IS NEEDED
From the top of my head, while authorities rally resources for detection, diagnosis, isolation & treatment there is immediate need to stop the spread. There is need for clean water provision. Thus :
1) Bottled water
2) Bleach/Jik (Sodium hypochlorite) - 11 drops for every 5 liters of water and a 30 minute wait is effective in killing most of the bacteria
HOW WILL IT BE DONE
We are in the process of coordinating volunteers especially from NGOs in Harare to help deliver the water and Jik.
- Savanna Madamombe is our point person in Harare, she is coordinating efforts to supply bousers of water and water tablets .
- We will negotiate with big box stores to sell the water & Jik to us at highly discounted prices
WHEN WILL IT BE DONE
Time is high essence, as the teams are forming the hope is that the first deliveries are made within the next 48 hours.
HOW WILL THE MONEY BE ACCOUNTED FOR
As I have always done, I will publish the receipts and account to all who would have donated. If the fund grows beyond $10K, I would engage help of experienced folks to help.
WHO AM I
I am an ordinary citizen and also a health professional but I have done a few fundraisers from the Zimbabwe Warriors to the Zimbabwe Freedom Fund for activists. There will be more people added to the team.
