Please Help Me Help Ziggy

Hi, I hate asking for help, but -- right now -- my dog, Ziggy, really needs it. (And I'd do anything for my little guy.)

A week ago, Ziggy (who still holds the record for most trips to the top of the Hollywood Sign on four paws) was happily chasing coyotes and barking at the Amazon delivery guy. But over the weekend, he suddenly stopped eating, and when I awoke yesterday morning, he could barely hold his head up.

Long story short, it turns out that Ziggy was in diabetic Ketoacidosis.

Fortunately, it looks like we caught it in time. While Ziggy's currently in intensive care at MedVet Akron, Dr. DeWitt is confident that a few days of IV meds and fluids will get him back to feeling like his old self again, at which point we can transition him to insulin therapy. It won't be easy, but he said that with the proper care, Ziggy should be with us for years to come.

However, unfortunately... ICU care isn't cheap, and this couldn't have come at a worse time for me financially. I just started looking for a full-time job after spending much of the last year working on my book project as a professor at the University of Akron. And...let's just say, Ziggy's care (which MedVet estimated could run as high as $7.5K) is more than I made all semester. (This, of course, all happened after COVID shut down our Hollywood Sign hike and forced me to move back to Ohio.)

Anyway, I already maxed out my credit; my sister helped with the deposit (she's the best), and I'm going to stay up all night applying for jobs, but it's not enough. So, while I hate to ask, if you are in a position to contribute to Ziggy's care, I will be extremely grateful.

All money raised will, of course, go towards Ziggy.

And if you can't afford to give, please keep Ziggy in your thoughts. He needs all of the love and prayers he can get right now.
