Hi team - as you may have heard, Zia and his family were enjoying a much-anticipated family vacation when his daughter (Erum) suffered a cardiac arrest with pneumonia infection. They spent the last night of vacation in the cruise ship's emergency department while the medical team performed CPR, defibrillator and other IV treatments. Upon landing, she was immediately transferred to Boward Health Centre in Fort Lauderdale.

Erum is currently in the Pediatric ICU in the US, and although Zia would much prefer to have her transferred to SickKids in Toronto, she is not well enough to travel back home at this time.

As you can imagine, flights home had to be cancelled, accommodations figured out, in addition to dealing with insurance and the high cost of US healthcare.

Thankfully, Zia's brother in-law flew in from Kentucky to care for his other two children so he and his wife can focus fully on being with their daughter and her recovery.

As his coworkers, Meagan and I thought we could show him our support by helping to alleviate some small part of the financial burden during this incredibly stressful time. Anything helps and I know it would mean so much to him.
