Special Ed Teacher's Recovery

7/16 Last UPDATE: July 10th, exactly TWO months after being on her Death Bed, Mama busted out of Rehab and WALKED (with a walker) into her home!! She lost over EIGHTY pounds of fluid that had built up over the course of her hospitalization so she had some major bumps and a few days of depression and disappointment, but Mama is so thankful for all who sent Prayers and Donations and I am thankful both and to still have My Mama! We are halfway to our Goal! We are still unsure of when/if she will be able to go back to work Part time, but for now we are just so incredibly thankful she is able to be HOME! THANK YOU to EVERYONE from the bottom of our Hearts for the support and prayers. Kathy is a damn Warrior! ❤️

6/16 She took her first steps!! It still takes people to help her get up to standing position, but with a walker, my Mom took real steps!

****From her literal deathbed on 5/10 to taking steps with walker 6/16, GOD IS GOOD. A long physical and emotional journey ahead of her but she is so thankful for any help and prayers that she has been given! Please please keep all prayers coming!

6/15 UPDATE: HONEST TO GOD 0% of me believed My Mom was going to make it out of the Hospital ALIVE.

36 days in the Hospital total, 3 weeks of that spent in ICU, almost 2 weeks with a machine breathing for her.

On the night of 6/15 Mom was finally transferred to an Acute Rehab where she has begun getting intense Therapy.

6/5 UPDATE: Mom has been working hard to build up her strength. She will be going to an Acute Rehab either late this week or early next week. When I told her that people were donating money for her she cried! My Mom NEVER wants anyone to go out of the way for her or feel like she is a burden. But the fact that you guys are helping her focus on her strength and health instead of finances is SUCH A BLESSING and I'm so grateful!! And she is so very appreciative! Even just a dent off of her worry is huge. Thank you all so much! ❤️

5/31: This is how I spent Mothers Day. My Mom Kathy is a Special Education Teacher's Assistant of almost 20 years who works mainly with children with Autism. She has a passion for pouring her heart into Children that need a little extra help as well as the other kiddos that she interacts with throughout the school days. She is absolutely the best human I know.

3 weeks ago from today on 5/10 early in the morning my Mom drove herself to the hospital after working at school all week. She just had "a little shortness of breath" she said. Within 3 hours she was in Septic Shock, her organs were failing. She was too unstable to transfer by Ambulance so they had to fly her by Helicopter with Critical Drips intact to keep her blood pressure as good as possible (70s/30s even on the drips). My Mom, the strongest woman I know, was then intubated for 10 days and spent 18 days in the ICU. I was not confident that she would leave there Alive. The day before she was extubated one of the Docs asked me if I was prepared to let them Trach & PEG her. Next day, BOOM, breathing on her own. Wow. Isn't God good. But because of the tube in her throat, she hasn't had a voice of any capacity or been able to swallow anything thicker than pudding. Yesterday was a big day, I heard a soft voice and my mom fed herself half of a yogurt. 3 days ago she couldn't lift her hand to her face or sit on the side of the bed without someone completely holding her up. Once we sit her up, she can now sit on the side of the bed for 5 minutes unassisted!! She has tried many days now to stand, she is still unable to do that, but I know standing and walking will take time. She will have to go to an Acute Rehab when discharged from Hospital to work on her strength to include standing/walking. But I'm just happy she has an opportunity to work on all of that stuff!

Growing up I remember my Mom working her ass off with 2 or 3 jobs (depending on the time) to make sure we had everything we needed... but not only did this woman work multiple jobs as a single parent with 2 kids at home while going to College to obtain a degree, but she then chose a career that also included being selfless. She has had a variety of children that she has helped transform with her love, care and support while following with them through their years from Grade School through High School. Though the pay is low, barely above minimum wage, she stays and puts everything into these kiddos that she loves dearly. In the summers she gets another job, just so she can come back to them the next school year.

Because of my Mom's lack of voice and not being strong enough to push a call light, she has been stayed with each night by family. 13 nights out of 21 I have slept on either the ICU room floor/chair/couch. Her Son and Brother have been switching on an off helping to keep from her having to be alone.

I have taken off an entire month worth of work. Of course I'm okay with that decision because my Mom is more important. But when I get back to work I'm going to have to catch up on what I have fallen behind on, so I'm just trying to help this woman who has not only made me the person that I am, but has also helped contribute to the people that her kids are becoming.

Any and all money will go towards Mom's recovery and bills and to no one else.

Thank you to anyone that can help, and completely understand if unable to! Continued Prayers are also greatly appreciated! ❤️
