Hello, my name is Debra Horsley. I reside in Plano, TX. I am the paternal grandmother of 11 year old twins, Brittany and Brianna Flenory. As some of you are aware, their mother, Janese Jackson Talton, was murdered in Pittsburgh, PA on 1/22/2016 by a man who got angry when she rebuffed his sexual advances. This story made national news because it was yet another case of senseless gun violence and violence against women in particular. Though this tragic story received the news coverage and public outrage that it deserved, little was mentioned about the lives of her children who were most affected by this senseless crime.
I last spoke with Janese a week before she was taken from us. We talked about the carribean cruise that I was planning to take the girls on the week of 7/31 to 8/7/2016. They were so excited. They had never been on a cruise and was looking forward to this experience. However, when a tragedy of this magnitude hits a family, you are never emotionally or financially prepared. I didn't incur the expenses of Janese's funeral; her family handled that; I did, however, incur expenses as they related to Brittany and Brianna. It was extremely important that I be there to provide comfort and support to my grandchildren. Airfare, car rentals and other unanticipated cost relating to this tragedy during my 4 week stay in Pittsburgh required me to use a portion of the funds earmarked for their vacation.
Brittany and Brianna's world has been torn apart. Nothing is ever going to be the same. However, I would truly like to give them something good and exciting to look forward to. I long to hear their contagious laughter and see those beautiful smiles once again. I speak with them often and they never fail to share their excitement about coming to Texas and going on the cruise.
Many of you have asked me if there was anyway they can help or anything they can do. Well, YES there is. I want to raise $3000 to help with the cost of their round trip/ unaccompanied minor airline fares and a portion of the cost of the cruise. Now anybody that knows me knows that I would not be asking for this help if there was not a genuine need for it. They are looking forward to their visit and the cruise. I don't want them to experience anymore disappointments if I have anything to do with it.
Please help me bring some fun and joy back into the lives of my grandbabies by helping me provide a memorable vacation for them. Every dollar raised will be used to bring sunshine, cool breezes and warm crystal waters into their lives.
