B's Life Matters

THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING EMERGENCY SITUATION! PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY + SHARE WIDELY!

A young Black trans femme who is disabled and neurodivergent urgently needs help transitioning out of houselessness and accessing the supports and medical care they need to survive.

We are raising funds on behalf of this individual, who will be referred to as "B" for their safety.

B has experienced a lifetime of abuse, trauma, repeated housing crises, and inadequate medical care.

They have temporarily secured shelter, in an inaccessible, hazardous, and completely inhospitable environment that exacerbates their trauma and medical conditions.

Their health has continuously deteriorated to the point where they are completely unable to function and can no longer care for themselves.

They are struggling to survive, and require IMMEDIATE financial support for the following in order to ensure their survival:

  • Securing safe and accessible housing; including associated costs with moving
  • Accessing basic survival needs such as food, clothing, transportation, household items, etc.
  • Hiring an in-home caregiver/disability support worker
  • Emergency oral surgery
  • Long-term treatment from medical specialists
  • Medications, medical supplies, mobility aids, etc.

B's recovery plan has been extensively planned, researched and organized. A more detailed explanation can be found below.

B has been ostracized and abused by their family. They have repeatedly experienced racist discrimination and medical gaslighting. While trying to fundraise for themselves to get out of this crisis, they were continuously threatened, stalked, cyber-bullied, harassed, and relentlessly verbally attacked by transphobes, ableists, and racists.

It is our responsibility as a community to help B access long term physical, mental and emotional stability in a safe living environment with the physical assistance they need. Community care is necessary for their survival, and B deserves reparations.

We ought to be accountable after so many people have continuously neglected and harmed them, including their family, housing providers, and the entire healthcare system.

It is essential that this monetary goal is met in order for B to recover and stabilize.

All we want is for B to leave behind this excruciating pain, and begin their recovery. They simply need access to the tools to build an enjoyable and fulfilling life like they deserve.

Thank you to everyone who helps!

Fundraising for B’s Survival and Recovery Plan

B has endured torturous abuse and extreme trauma since childhood, only a small percentage of which has been explained here in the description. The harm they have endured has resulted in severe and extensive damage to their physical and mental health. In order for them to survive and make a full recovery, access to various supports and many forms of medical care are urgently needed.

The funds we collect will be covering: medical supplies, mobility aids, overdue/ upcoming medical and hospital bills, medications and treatments that aren’t covered by provincial healthcare, transportation to and from appointments, and hiring an in-home caregiver/disability support worker; as well as urgent medical needs and procedures including emergency oral surgery, chiropractic, dermatologic, and cardiologic care, physical rehabilitation and physiotherapy, immunotherapy, mental health care, an intensive specialized trauma rehabilitation program, and so on. Collected funds will also be used to help them access essential survival needs such as food, clothing, and household items. In efforts to maintain B’s safety and privacy, additional components essential to their recovery will not be further elaborated on. The complete total including all medical expenses and other necessities sums up to $261,500.

>> Emergency Situation!

B’s current temporary living space has extensive issues that have caused them severe respiratory problems and contribute to worsening their health, including: toxic mold, water damage, and unfinished construction which has left ripped up walls and floors in open areas, constantly exposing them to toxic materials and large amounts of dust and debris. Their landlord is completely negligent, and they are struggling to breathe every single day.

In addition to all of that, to access their place they must walk up 4 flights of stairs, which they are no longer able to do because of the continuous health deterioration they’ve experienced attempting to survive there. They cannot go outside because of this, and their health is plummeting rapidly due to the fact that they cannot leave, cannot exercise, stretch, prepare or eat healthy meals, nor maintain proper hygiene, all due to an extremely inaccessible environment that they are trapped in. They have no comfortable furniture and this physical disarray means that they can barely navigate their current space, nor access essential items needed for daily care and survival.

They have been severely suffering for a prolonged period of time in a dangerously toxic environment, which has resulted in complete deterioration of their health. They are unable to carry out day to day tasks without assistance, and urgently need access to a caregiver.

B’s disability chronically affects their legs and compromises their ability to walk. They have continuously strained themselves every day trying to survive in this hazardous, inaccessible environment which has worsened the severity of their condition to the point where they can barely move their body whatsoever, and struggle to just hold their head up. They're in constant agony, and completely unable to function or take care of themselves. B needs a caregiver, proper mobility aids, as well as immediate access to other forms of medical support to recover from the damage this prolonged crisis has had on their physical and mental health.

There are many barriers when it comes to attaining safety and stability. B is autistic and also has ADHD and their symptoms affect them in many different ways. For example, it is incredibly complicated for B to do things such as filling out application forms. It is confusing and exhausting for them to try and understand the information and navigate all of the nuances of the process of securing housing, which further adds to difficulties in acquiring stable, safe housing. These difficulties are of course also heightened by factors like racism, ableism and transphobia. When looking for housing they have been discriminated against, doubted, misunderstood, and rejected repeatedly, further complicating their likelihood in securing sustainable housing. In order to protect them, both now and in the future, funds are essential. They need support to have a safe, accessible healthy life. Our capitalist society is ableist and set up for neurotypical people to thrive leaving disabled and neurodivergent people behind. Often the general public assumes that all disabled and/or neurodivergent folks have access to stability and help, that is sadly not the case.

B has experienced repeated instances of discrimination, gaslighting, and medical negligence due to a medical system designed to prioritize care for the white and privileged. This broken system is strikingly clear when looking at statistics on healthcare. A 2016 study found 73% of white medical students wrongly believed Black people have a higher pain tolerance than white people. These myths result in a much less accessible healthcare system for Black people - other studies have found Black people are less likely than white people to receive pain medication for things such as appendicitis and recurring cancer. These instances of psychological abuse have inflicted even more trauma on B, as well as made it more difficult for them to access the medical care they desperately need.

>> More info: Trauma, houselessness

B is a trauma survivor and has yet to receive proper support to stabilize from all that they’ve endured. They still need to recover — Stability and support are essential for trauma, or any kind of recovery.

While attempting to find housing, they have been subjected to atrocious amounts of harm, including emotional abuse, sexual harassment, manipulation, as well as severe life threatening illnesses leading to near-death experiences.

B has also experienced sexual coercion and ultimately relied on sex work to survive, despite not having the proper tools to engage in sex safely. These experiences have caused B significant trauma and harm, and under no circumstances can we allow them to end up back in such a scary, painful place. They have repeatedly found themselves in dangerous situations trying to access work, and have oftentimes not been paid for the work they did. The amount of trauma they endured has made it even more difficult for them to receive adequate support and find stability.

The last time they were without shelter of any kind was during winter. The temperatures during the winter months where they live can get below -45 degrees celsius for several days at a time. In these extreme temperatures any exposed skin will freeze within 5 minutes, therefore local public health officials advise all residents to remain indoors/ seek shelter. This leads to massively overcrowded shelters and many people left behind, resulting in several deaths by freezing every winter. B nearly died several times themselves trying to survive these conditions. They had no money, nowhere to live, and their benefits were cut off without warning or reasoning, leaving them without any source of income. They couldn’t do their laundry or maintain their hygiene, and rarely had access to food. They had no access to basic survival needs for an extremely long period of time. This led them to developing severe illnesses due to malnutrition, as well as being prone to infections related to lack of hygiene in unsanitary, inhospitable environments. Without being able to access proper shelter, survival needs, or medical care; a minor injury progressed into an aggressive skin infection, which spread to their sinuses and respiratory system, and eventually to their blood, resulting in sepsis, also known as blood poisoning. This resulted in septic shock and was again, nearly fatal. This is only one of multiple horrific near death occurrences. It’s a miracle that they survived.

All their belongings were lost or destroyed during this crisis, and since then they haven't been able to replace their belongings.

This was an incredibly traumatic experience for them to go through and they still have not been able to recover from this ordeal. They need funds to access adequate and urgent medical care, as well as to obtain the personal items, clothes, furniture, and resources they’ve lost and/or lack access to.

B is unable to do anything that brings them joy or comfort, and has been in survival mode for years. They live in a constant state of panic, which of course also worsens their physical, mental and psychological health. This prolonged stress and trauma has caused extensive damage to their body, their nervous system, their brain and functioning level.

Experiencing houselessness repeatedly for years without proper support, on top of experiencing a lifetime of abuse and dealing with life-threatening illness has tremendously impacted their physical and mental well-being, as well as the quality and functionality of their life.

Beyond causing physical and emotional harm, racism, ableism, and transphobia have prevented financial stability and success in B's life. Regular, long-term mutual aid and wealth redistribution are required to ensure success for B’s survival.

We are raising funds on their behalf because, as stated above, in response to them having tried to fundraise for themselves to get out of this crisis, they were continuously threatened, stalked, cyber-bullied, harassed, and relentlessly verbally attacked by transphobes, ableists, and racists. It is crucial to their safety that their identity stays anonymous.

Community care is essential for B’s survival and recovery. It is absolutely necessary that we come together and donate, share, and support B in finally accessing the long term environmental, physical, mental, and emotional stability that they deserve.

Wealth redistribution is vital for the long term success and survival of marginalized communities. Decolonization is key, therefore, it is necessary to frequently engage in direct forms of mutual aid and wealth redistribution in effort to eventually restore a meaningful level of financial equality. Providing regular monetary mutual aid contributions directly to Black and Indigenous people is necessary and highly impactful. If you donate to charities, consider buying someone's groceries or a piece of furniture instead. Find a friend and think of creative ways to help hold each other accountable! Have conversations with your wealthy or privileged friends and family members who have not yet normalized giving to mutual aid, budget for a weekly donation schedule, and always reconsider how much you're truly able to give.

As previously stated, it is essential that this fundraising goal is met as soon as possible in order for B to recover and stabilize.

In order to ensure B’s safety and survival, please give generously, purchase items off their Amazon wishlist , and share this GoFundMe with everyone you know who could contribute. We appreciate every donation made.
