Mum was the life and soul of the party — the one who held us all together and always had a smile on her face. She had five children, who then gave her five wonderful grandchildren. Mum loved to travel, especially to her favourite place, Greece, with her husband Steve.
She was an amazing woman who would go to great lengths to help someone, and her presence could light up any room. With all of us grown up, she and Steve had big travel plans — it was finally their time to enjoy life together. In July 2024, while in Greece, Mum started feeling short of breath. She put it down to the heat and went to the GP once she was back in the UK. The GP thought it was asthma, prescribed inhalers, and referred her to an asthma clinic.
In September 2024, she was taken to A&E after her breathing got worse, and that’s when they found a large mass on her lung. After a few weeks of more tests, we were told it was primary lung cancer that had already spread to her liver and bones. Our world came crashing down when Mum was given a prognosis of 18 months. Then the cancer spread to her brain, and just three weeks after being told she likely had three months to live, our Mum left this earth, while in the care of The Princess Alice Hospice.
