The Bauer family

Hi , my name is Ashley Shannon. I am starting a gofund me for a very good friend of mine. Her name is Shannon Bauer and her husband is Ty. Ty is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. Unfortunately they are going through a very difficult time right now and they can use all the help they can get. Here is a little back story on Ty.

Ty had a mitral valve repair surgery in June of this year at University of Chicago Hospital , surgery went great and he was discharged two days later . After a week of being home he had a fever and couldn’t breath so he was taken to the local ER where they thought he developed pneumonia. Come to find out he had a pleural effusion and had 1.2 liters of fluid removed off his lung . Two days later Ty was back in the ER and was then sent back to Chicago with another 1.2 liters of fluid that also had to be removed off his lung . It was suppose to be a short recovery time but with the effusions it made his recovery longer . Luckily Shannon and Ty both had PTO for that surgery and time off.

Now fast forward 3 months later Ty has not been feeling himself. He has been very fatigued with horrible body weakness. He ended up having his Dr. order labs on him and they came back abnormal. After review of his labs he was referred to a endocrinologist. He only had one visit with this Dr. before he woke up one morning and couldn’t see anything but outlines out of his left eye. His wife Shannon immediately made him a eye appointment. His eye appointment did not go very well as she was concerned and he was referred to a ophthalmologist. That same night he was called at home from the optometrist and was told to go to the ER at Silver Cross Hospital immediately to get a MRI . Shannon and Ty ended up spending 10 hours in the ER with no answers. Silver Cross Hospital refused to do an MRI so they were then discharged .

Tys wife Shannon reached out to the optometrist and let her know what had happened at the ER. The optometrist then called the ophthalmologist and got Ty in immediately. They did a lot of testing and realized that something was pressing on his optic nerve and was cutting off the blood supply to his left eye. They were then told that they needed to go straight to the University of Illinois in Chicago and check into the emergency room. The ophthalmologist and a neurologist then decided to do the MRI and they found a mass on his pituitary gland which is causing his vision loss and all of his other symptoms that he has been dealing with. Ty will have to have surgery to remove the mass.

They are not sure what the recovery time is or how long . And with his heart surgery this year they have exhausted their PTO and savings . If you could donate to help them get through this difficult time it would be greatly appreciated. They are wonderful people and help others in need. ♡
