Bring Ginger Home!

Hi this is Virginia Valentine. Known as Ginger to her friends and family, a kind woman who goes out of her way to help those however she can. At 78 years old Ginger has been through a lot; loss, medical scares, financial struggles but through it all she keeps a smile on her face and keeps on moving forward. Only a week ago Ginger flew to Cancun to celebrate her best friends birthday. She saved up penny by penny so that they could enjoy some time just the two of them in paradise. On the last full day of her trip as she was stepping back to take in the sights and take a photo she slipped off a step, fell and completely broke her hip. She was then rushed to the hospital in a country that she does not speak the language with her friend by her side. Immediately her family and friends started looking into how to get her out of Mexico and back home to the States. Because of the severity of her injuries Ginger cannot be transported without being on a stretcher and so she requires an emergency medical evacuation flight. The cost for those can range anywhere from $17,000 to $40,000. All medical evacuation airlines will not even consider a flight for a transport without money upfront. Unfortunately Medicare/Medicaid does not cover out of country expenses and so Ginger is trapped in Mexico. The US government offers a loan to those people in emergency situations however the process of approval takes a significant amount of time. And with the holiday quickly approaching government offices will be closed for the weekend meaning more time passing stuck in this situation. You may be thinking all of that sounds fine, she's in a hospital with a friend and recieving care. Unfortunately that is not the case. Each day she stays in this hospital awaiting approval from the consulate, it cost $5000.00 cash upfront just to pay for the hospital bed and pain meds, no treatment or care. This is money that Ginger most certainly does not have. To top it all off, she's at the risk of infection or blood clots every day that she goes without proper corrective treatment. Whether Ginger's family raises the money through their own means, or the U.S. Government comes through quickly, Ginger needs financial help.
